From an acclaimed boy band heartthrob to an absolute solo superstar
The Irish singer Ronan Keating will be honored with the European Cultural Prize on June 7, 2024 at the Luxembourg Philharmonic. In the presence of the Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, Keating receives the award from the hands of German pop icon Jeannette Biedermann. Both artists lead the ranks of famous guests who will meet in the front row of the celebrity-studded gala to award the prestigious prizes. “Ronan is a wonderful person and a gifted singer,” says Jeanette Biedermann, who has appeared on stage with Ronan Keating several times.
The appearance is nevertheless a small premiere for the prominent Irishman: Keating is appearing for the first time with the Orchester Philharmonique du Luxembourg. For many years, the European Cultural Forum, as the organizer of the gala, has pursued the approach of breaking down the strict separation between musical genres and expanding the concept of culture far beyond narrow boundaries. In recent years, the rock bands “Die Toten Hosen” and the “Scorpions” have performed with renowned European orchestras. Ronan Keating is being honored not only for his exemplary support of young talent as a juror on the program “The Voice of Germany”. He is also exemplary in his commitment to charitable institutions such as the German Cancer Aid. In his home country he initiated one of today's largest foundations, the Marie Keating Foundation, for which he still works regularly today. “I’m very happy about this honor because, unlike the charts, it doesn’t just rate my music,” says Ronan Keating. “The Eurovision Song Contest has also taken place very often in Luxembourg, to which I have a very close connection because I was able to host the show myself in 1997 in my hometown of Dublin.” In 2009, Keating also took part in the composition of the Danish ESC Contribution “Believe Again” by Brinck.
